Borehole Cleaning

What is it?

Also known as flushing, swabbing, surging or jetting all are aimed at removing drilling fluid that has covered (or painted) the borehole walls and gravel pack. It is important to remove this drilling fluid as it stops water entering the borehole. The same methods are also used after a few years when the amount of water from the borehole drops due to a build up of silt at the screen and gravel pack.

Swabbing cups

In the oil and gas industry these 'swab cups' are used as an effective tool to rush water in and out of the casing thus flushing the well.

The above cups are a series of cups that look like this.

Shaping the swabbing tool made from car tyre to look more like the above is likely to make a more effective tool.
